Unpopular Opinion: I don’t like Rupi Kaur’s Poetry

Image
My relationship with poetry started when I was completing my primary school. I had started writing in both Hindi and English and loved keeping a diary. I have an antique collection of my childhood words and they absolutely mean a lot to me.  As I started discovering the world of poetry, I often came across the same name quite frequently. I’d look up for recommendations or even ask the bookseller to suggest, it was the first thing they would say. Even when I went out a few days ago, as poetry is not so popular in local bookstores I expected not a single collection to be sitting on the shelf but to my surprise there it was , ‘The Sun and Her Flowers’. What was my stance on all of that? I decided to explore it on my own first. I have always been analytical with the books and took my time to pick up the most needed ones. I got older and learnt about the social media platforms. I would read from Rupi Kaur’s account a few times whenever I get the chance. I rea...

Reading ‘Loveless’ by Alice Oseman was the best thing that happened to me

(Spoiler Free!) It was another day, I was stomped by the lousiness I carried the whole time after opening my eyes to see the first light in the morning or perhaps I should say afternoon. I vaguely came across this book online and got it for the sake of finally reading something. I now look back to my struggling depressive survival days, I have never admitted it to myself but I have always kept trying. As usual, I was forcing my brain to focus on the words instead of dealing with the great emptiness felt inside. Then it piqued me, how Georgia searched for that fluttering feeling everyone talked about.  Georgia Warr, a fanfic obsessed romantic who believes she’ll one day find ‘The’ person in her life. She has never been in love, neither kissed someone nor did she ever stumble upo...

Words, the Impeccable being in my Life

Image
( Wallpaper: Amy Nelson flowers and books) I first came across enormous worlds through the power of words lying around my house. Like they were breathing for me to be alive. In my intellectual household, I was fond of the giant shelves that took all the place. I would take my time to imagine every possibility I could and choose a new story every time. My mum's shelf, my father's huge stacks, then my sister's collections, welcomed me in a subtle way to explore beyond and beyond.  I still remember picking up a unique title each time from our personal primary school library that my teacher set up for us. It was the magic iron almirah in our classroom. Each week we would wait for our turn to pick up something new, everyone waited patiently for our teacher to unlock the door with her powerful keys. We would all jump in, overjoyed. I have 'The Treasure Island' from 5th grade on my shelf today. I still adore it so much.  My first novel 'Matilda' by Ro...
